Lay Lake Oil on Canvas Panel I painted this little painting at the 4 H Camp on Lay Lake, Alabama. I was chaperoning an overnight trip for my son's fifth grade trip. It was a pretty busy time and I managed to get a break the second day. This painting was done near the canoe docks and there was a lot of activity around me. The kids all wanted to see what I was doing. Funny thing with kids when they watch you paint: you could have two lines on the canvas and already they will praise you on how great it is. Adults on the other hand, wait until the work is a bit more recognizable to tell you that they cannot draw a straight line and that they have an aunt who paints. I remember that the light was changing minute by minute while I painted, so this landscape truly is an impression of the scene. After I finished, I felt great. Before making this trip with my son’s class, I’d gotten caught up in painting portraits for a number of years and had only allowed time for landscape painting when visiting in Canada. I was very glad to be back at it. |
