It is interesting that when we build houses we want them to be perfect. We expect the floors to be level, the walls straight and windows intact. Shiny and new is appealing in a home but painting such a building is unappealing, no matter how beautiful the structure is.

A building that has some wear and tear appeals to most painters and the public. A cabin looks more picturesque with some rust on the roof and a slight lean.

When I came across this old boat house I had to paint it. It not only had a lean, it was practically on its side. The half frozen bay and little bit of water balanced out the scene.

It was a nice place to paint and I had my dog Sully with me. He would run around and now and then test the water. Being from Alabama, he had never encountered ice before and was mystified as to why he could stand on water. He had a couple of Bambi moments before he started to figure it out.
