The day I decided to embark on the “Impressions of Alabama” project filled me with great excitement. I had been looking forward to doing this for ten years. So I figured I had better get out right away and do something.

This day, I had been painting in the studio and had a Boy Scout meeting later that evening at 7 o'clock. I knew this landscape would prove to be a quick turn around and would give me an excuse to escape the Portrait Painting side of my business by leaving much earlier than the usual 6 o'clock finishing time.

I went home and picked up my son Christian, and we grabbed some camping gear. I figured I wouldn't have time for dinner so the plan was that he could cook while I painted.

We hiked down to an overgrown part of Chewakla Creek and as I painted, my dog Sully ran about like a crazy person, going in and out of the water. Christian set up an impromptu campsite and made mac and cheese.

The light was starting to dim as we hiked out and I made it to Scouts a little late but not too late.
